Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"As I was standing in line at Starbucks, I thought to myself, “I should try something new and local.” I stumbled across this place and for the same price of a Union-busting Starbucks coffee and mediocre sandwich you can eat here for the same price. The food is 10/10 and their shaken espresso here puts Starbucks to shame. Try this place out. I came here for a weekday brunch and got the duck poutine and it will rock your world. The shaken espresso has so much taste and flavor. The shaken espresso tasted like the smoky cocktails you get as a swanky cocktail bar. Anyway, try this place out and support local."
"Part of the Providence experience is that it is one of the largest culinary teaching hubs. If you are finding this review, then you have found exactly the right place to have dinner tonight! CHOP is more than an outreach for enterprising chefs, for over 40 years, the Genesis Center, a 501c3 nonprofit, has helped tens of thousands of people improve English, get employment and achieve economic independence with their job training programs. CHOP is where culinary students, assisted by professional chefs, work together to create meals that are unique and original, full of flavor and cultural blends. When you walk into the building, everything has been recently renovated and set up to accommodate small or large groups of people. The seating is comfortable, and the staff are warm and friendly. You can ask them about what their favorite dishes are because they helped create them. If you like a little adult beverage with your meal, they have a special list of cocktails that pair beautifully with the specials that they have. Like a typical Providence restaurant, you will need to park on the street, but we found this area to have lots of parking options within a short walk. There are accessible parking spaces close by the restaurant. If you can imagine a better world created by delicious food, then please support CHOP. Neither you, nor your taste buds, will be disappointed."
"CHOP is a wonderful dining experience and would recommend everyone in Providence give it a try! My husband and I did the date night Thursday special. $60 for a bottle of Chenin Blanc, brussel sprout app, 2 entrees, and incredible dessert. Service was beyond excellent."
"A very cool spot for a fantastic bite to eat. The vibes are cool, calm, relaxing yet has tasteful élégance. The chairs welcome you to take a load off, stay and chat while sharing food with friends, significant others, or even enjoying a drink and book by yourself. The service was top tier. Everyone was very friendly, informative, and provided a level of attention that you don't seem to find at a lot of places anymore. They really care. On the note of care, they put a lot of detail and passion into their food. We got the date night special, which (for us), was a green goddess salad, bottle of white wine, chicken piccatta, steak, and a brownie sundae. The food had a level of flavor and depth that I wasn't expecting. The piccatta was one of the best Ive had. The brownie sundae with the house vanilla was incredible. For $60, you can't beat it. I'd recommend any this to anyone who wants a clean, wholesome meal with good vibes and fantastic service"
"We went to dinner at CHOP right before our PPAC show. The concept is interesting as the menu is crafted with the help of aspiring chefs from the Genesis Center’s training program. Very cool concept! Our waitress Emily was attentive, kind, and checked in on us quite often. Other staff helped her as well, and everyone was super friendly. The space itself is warm with nice holiday place settings, spacious tables, and a cozy atmosphere. Cocktails were creative and interesting. For food, we tried the salmon and the short rib. They were flavorful and delicious, just served a touch too cold but still good overall. The kofta appetizer was equally delicious. We tried the Japanese Crepe Cake with mixed berry coulis and that was delicious, but a little too much mixed berry coulis. Overall, a fun experience and I’d return to support the program!"
"What an amazing dining experience. From the minute we walked in until we finished dining, it was a wonderful experience. We started with the tasting board and we really enjoyed it. The tasting board had bread, pistachios, fig jam, 3 types of cheeses, olives, salami and pickled onions. The only negative is the tasting board could have used another additional type of Italian meat (possibly prosciutto??). The bistro steak was perfectly cooked and paired with mashed potato and broccoli. It was excellent, so flavorful and beautifully plated. My girlfriend had the chicken and waffles and she loved it. She said the chicken was so juicy and cooked really well. The restaurant had a really chill vibe. We loved it and the service was excellent. So glad we chose to come here!!!"
"Amazing craft cocktails, innovative menu with a little bit of everything to choose from. The staff is so welcoming, attentive and kind. The Cesar salad is so delicious- light and super fresh. The scallops and risotto-exquisite! This is a wonderful place that you have to try out!"
"It was really good here! Good service. Cute atmosphere. I love the entire concept and think it’s so fun that we can dine inside the public library! They have an amazing way of hiring and training here - very proud of them. I didn’t love the appetizers we had gotten and found them rather bland but the rest was amazing and made up for it."
